Molecular and Cellular Aspects of Corneal Nerve Regeneration
This proposal builds upon our research findings generated during the K08 award period. We will explore our hypothesis that Sema7a acts on neurites and infiltrating immature myeloid cells (Myeloid-derived Supressor Cells) in the cornea to promote neuroregeneration, thus linking neuronal and myeloid systems

Keratocyte Role in Guidance of Corneal Nerves
The main educational objective is to provide the PI with the structured program necessary to become an independent biomedical scientist in the area of ocular neurobiology. The research objective is to delineate cornea-resident cellular and molecular cues that play a role in the proper growth and patterning of axons during nerve regeneration in the cornea.

Safety and Efficacy of DNase I Eye Drops in Dry Eye Disease
The goal of this study is to perform biochemical analysis of tear fluid to determine the eDNA abundance and to determine safety and tolerability of DNase I eye drops to treat patients with severe tear deficiency.

Numerical and Experimental Study for Collagen Crosslinking Treatment for Keratoconus
This pilot grant provided seed funding for establishing interdisciplinary collaboration between medicine and engineering. The grant provided funds to explore approaches to improve the outcome of collagen crosslinking to treat keratoconus.
